Another Step Closer
Our Farnham show is now complete and ready for its private view after many hours of hard work and stress. We then spent Weds building our show in Brick Lane so that when our guests arrive, we wont still be building (fingers crossed.)
So if your reading this, we’ve posted a few images of the process for the Farnham show to look at and we hope that our London show caps off and amazing year....
The men of the hour
Wow, what a whirlwind of events that occurred last week. The deadline for our final major project was the 22nd of May, but to spice it up a bit, the printers wanted our banner designs for the London show in on the 20th. We were all really up against it but not as much as one team in particular. Dave, who came up with the design for dialogue, very kindly set aside the whole of that Tuesday for...
Invite drop off
A selection of the highly anticipated ‘Special 20’ invites for the show were taken up to London on the 12th. All were hand made and destined for a selection of the collective’s favourite agencies. The books are part of the dialogue message, with the aim of getting the conversation going before the private view in two weeks (28th May). Rachel and Will drove up from Farnham with a stow away in the...
It was another lovely clear night this Monday, our Students Union looked like it was going to be a quite one, Then out of the bushes jumps some of the ABC team; Amiirah, Kirsty, Becky, Frankie, Carmen, Amrit and Pete, all armed with boxes of Krispy Kreme. It was a quiet start this time, most third years at UCA Farnham are all pulling their hair out, getting work ready for deadlines week next week....
Reinvent the ‘Young Creative’
“What was the last thing you invented?”
It was a question I heard on a recent interview. What? Invented? Was I supposed to be an inventor or an advertising creative? I thought it was enough to just make really cool print ads and have a book full of great work? Sure it can be enough, but do you really want to be just ‘good enough’? Working as ad creatives in this business we all rely on our...
Skype With Us
As part of our degree show, we are offering a hotline for anyone wanting to talk ads, ideas or the future. From now until the end of the show, we will be available to take calls from anyone that might not be able to attend the show but might want to have a talk with us all. We will also have a direct Skype line from our show at Free Range to the show at UCA for those wanting to chat with us...
People Get Hired
Luke and Wilf asked me to write something for this blog, so here we are. I don’t know much about studying advertising and brand communication. I studied geography myself. Then I eventually fell into the job that I do now – Head of Creative at innocent drinks. I’ve been working at innocent for almost ten years now, so most of the things I’ve learned about design, writing and everything else that my...
STUDENTS GET 'IN BOOK'
The Dialogue show is proud to announce that two of the teams that will be exhibiting at free range in May managed to get In Book for this year’s D&AD student awards. The two teams - Rachel and Jemma whose Lloyds work was chosen and Pete, Carmen and Amrit whose work for Blyk was picked, will also be featuring in the show. Below are the winning pieces and a little picture from each of the...
No Prior Planning – No Problem
So, how do you become a planner? Well, I’ll start off by saying, like most interesting jobs, there’s no set route in. With that in mind, I’m going to describe how I did it, and what I learned along the way. I was a lucky fella really; my father was the MD of an agency in Cheltenham, so I knew about advertising as a career. Lots of people don’t. However, I didn’t know about planning. I was always...
Student Bloggers
Whilst we are working away creating our masterpieces for this show, a few of the people involved are also Bloggers. We are all nice people, not the sort of Internet junkies you see skulking around at night in an anorak with a wolves tail, dragging surreptitiously behind! Most of the Bloggers I will list in a minute use their Blogs to communicate what they are doing as they look to leave university...

Death Match
Death Match was the first of the fundraising efforts made by our course; George, Luke and Wilf created and ran the project - a 7 day long water-gun assassination tournament, held in our very own Farnham. The game is based on a popular game called Street Wars which is staged in the US. The game started during the very early hours of the morning on Monday the 6th October when the mysterious...
It's A Knockout
For all you lovers of typography, we hope you like the type we are using. It’s called Knockout and we like it very much here at UCA. Luckily we had enough spare change to buy it before it was out of our student budget.

What it all means
This degree show started way back last summer, spurred on by a visit to Free Range 08 from this years graduate students. Since then, we’ve been determined to prove our worth to the industry and showcase our thinking. Dialogue aims to provoke conversation with subjects that are important to graduates and their peers throughout the communications industry. We hope to feature guest posts from...
